Frances A. Ruppenthal

Frances Ada Ruppenthal, age 96, of Berkeley Springs, WV, died on Monday, January 23, 2012 at Envoy of Winchester.

Born October 2, 1915 in Morgan County, she was the daughter of the late Eugene Viola and Odessa Lena Miller Henry.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the George P. Hott Sunday School class. She attended Bath District High School.

Frances had worked seasonally at local canneries and at the late Virgil Ruppenthal’s confectionary store, where she met her husband, which had been located at the site of the Fairfax Restaurant. She also worked the election polls at Berkeley Springs High School and painted portaits at Ruppenthal’s Studio and Camera Shop. She had been a homemaker in recent years.

Mrs. Ruppenthal is survived by two sons, Henry Martin Ruppenthal III and wife Jean of Wheeling, WV and Virgil Harold Ruppenthal and wife BJ of Berkeley Springs; two daughters, Ronnie Sue Childers and husband Raymond of Berkeley Springs and Judith Ann Young and husband David of Winchester, VA; 13 grandchildren, Henry Martin Ruppenthal IV of Martinsburg, Brian Keith Ruppenthal of Cincinnati, OH, Beverly Ann Buzzerd of Largent, WV, Michael Todd Ruppenthal of Berkeley Springs, Lisa Francine Shufflebarger of Westborough, MA, Raymond Paul David Childers, Jr. of Martinsburg, Kathy Young Alonso of Coral Springs, FL, Stephen David Young of Stephens City, VA, Ronald Edward Frye, Jr., SGT, USA, ret., of Buckhannon, WV, Julie Desiree Winemiller of Buckhannon, WV, Lindsay Frances Harman of Sutton, WV, Kevin Joe Ridgeway of Hagerstown, MD and Connie Rae Willey of Berkeley Springs, WV; 31 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Martin Ruppenthal, Jr. on February 5, 1986; one sister, Ruth Miller; one brother, William Brady Henry; one grandchild, Brian Keith Ridgeway and three great-grandchildren, Courtney Young, Gabrielle Young and Lindsay Laine Buzzerd.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 27, 2012 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, with the Rev. Andrew Cooney officiating. Interment will be at Greenway Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home which will be open from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. for the convenience of family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the George P. Hott Sunday School Class, 49 S. Green Street, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411.
